Following the conclusion of the Vienna Programme of Action, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries for the decade 2024-2034.The Programme of Action highlights five priority areas to support development challenges in landlocked countries. The priority areas include:
- Structural transformation and Science, Technology and Innovation – Raising labor productivity and furthering value-added manufacturing.
- Trade, Trade facilitation and Regional Integration- Simplifying customs and border procedures, developing transport and logistics corridors, and reducing non-tariff barriers that increase trade costs.
- Transit, Transport, and Connectivity – Well developed infrastructure and coordinating associated regulatory frameworks.
- Enhancing Adaptive Capacity, Strengthening Resilience, and Reducing Vulnerability- Increase in climate finance to support both mitigation and adaptation to climate change, with a particular focus on protecting people’s lives and infrastructure investments from the adverse effects of extreme weather.
- Means of Implementation - Comprehensive approaches to mobilizing resources through boosting domestic revenue capacity, financial sector reforms, and reducing illicit financial flows.
