Investing in Forests and Protected Areas for Climate Smart Development (IFPA-CD) Project.

The project was launched in April 2021 and its objective is to enhance forest and wildlife conservation for the benefit of local communities and on a large scale, sustenance of the country’s economy.

The implementation of the project is being piloted in 37 districts surrounding 7 National Parks, 4 Wildlife reserves and 28 Central Forest Reserves. The project is financed by the International Development Association (IDA) under the World Bank contributing USD148.2Million both in grants and loans, in collaboration with GoU contributing USD 30Million with an expectation to attract an additional USD 30Million from Global Climate funds.

The implementing partners in Uganda are Ministry of Water and Environment (MoWE), Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiques (MTWA), Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and National Forestry Authority (NFA). Furthermore, MFPED is implementing the necessary measures to ensure the project is implemented in accordance with World Bank Environmental and Social Standards (ESSs).
