POVERTY STATUS REPORTS (PSRs)

The Poverty Status Reports explore the extent to which Uganda’s economic status changes overtime and how such change relates to poverty outcomes. Poverty status reports provide comprehensive reviews of implications of these changes for the poverty reduction agenda. Since the launch of the National Development Plan (NDP I) in 2010, there has been perception among stakeholders in development that government investments are skewed towards infrastructure at the expense of social sector spending which formed the corner stone of the Poverty Eradication Action plans (1997-2009); before the establishment of the National Development Plan in 2010. It was realised that even with significant reduction of poverty over the last 20 years or so (from 56% in 1992 to 19.7% in 2014), majority of the population is classified insecure, living below twice the poverty line and largely employed in agriculture sector, vulnerable to climatic shocks, pests, plant and animal diseases and price fluctuations. To expound on these challenges, two poverty status reports were produced in 2012 and 2014 respectively and another one is planned to come in place by 2018.
