Private Sector Mapping, Outreach, and Engagement in Climate-Responsive Agrifood Systems

The Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) (SCALA) Programme recognises the unique role of the private sector in spurring innovation and investment for transformative climate action in the agriculture and land use sectors.

The ‘Private sector mapping, outreach, and engagement in climate-responsive agrifood system’ guidance outlines a three-step process for collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive NAPs and NDCs implementation. These are:



Integrating Displaced Populations into National Climate Change Policy and Planning

The enjoyment of human rights by displaced populations and their communities is directly affected by the adverse effects of climate change and environmental degradation throughout the displacement cycle, in places of origin, transit and destination.

The international community should be encouraged to include displaced populations in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), while addressing the adaptation needs of highly vulnerable communities.


TotalEnergies EP Partners with NFA to Conserve Uganda’s Largest Forest Reserve (CFR)

TotalEnergies entered into a five-year partnership with NFA to conserve and restore Uganda’s largest central forest reserve. Bundongo CFR situated in Albertine rift is the largest mahogany forest in East Africa and is estimate to accommodate 600-800 chimpanzees.

Budongo is threatened by human activities as populations around it continue to swell e.g. illegal logging and production of charcoal


COP28 UAE Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action

Uganda endorsed the UAE Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action. It was among the 159 countries that committed to expedite the integration of agriculture and food systems into their climate action and, simultaneously, to mainstream climate action across our policy agendas and actions related to agriculture and food systems.


Uganda attains the Mineral Certification Scheme of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)

The Regional Certification Mechanism is one of the six tools approved by ICGLR’s 12 Heads of State and is part of the Regional Initiative against the illegal exploitation of Natural Resources (RINR). It is a compulsory regional standard for certification of the 3Ts (tin, tantalum, tungsten) and gold sourced from or transiting across an ICGLR Member State.



Local Government Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) /Pooled Finance Guidelines

Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development launched the Local Government Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) /pooled finance guidelines in December, 2023.  This activity is one of the initatitves aimed at building institutional capacity, human capital and equipping Local Government institutions with tools to effectively identify, develop, procure and implement PPPs.
