UGANDA TOURISM SATELITE ACCOUNT 2023

Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) launched the first ever Uganda Tourism Satellite Account (UTSA) as an official measure of tourism’s contribution to Uganda’s economy.

The UTSA is an accounting framework adopted by the United National Statistics Commission and was designed to measure goods and services associated with tourism according to international standards, concepts, classifications and definitions.

Today, more than 800 million people across the globe go to bed hungry every night, most of them smallholder farmers who depend on agriculture to make a living and feed their families.

According to this report, the full start of the 2022 first bimodal rainy season (March to June) was delayed by 30 to 40 days or more across the country. The season is believed to be among the driest on record since 1981 in large parts of northern Uganda. This meant delayed crop development and reduced yields. Therefore, less food to feed households and for sale.


Ministry of Health receives Ambulances from Government of Japan

On 14th July 2023, Ministry of Health received 25 type B ambulances from the Government of Japan to improve emergency response to patients with life threatening medical conditions at the community level. The ambulances will be distributed to 25 constituencies in the country. The donation is part of Japan’s aid for social and economic programs, aimed at addressing Healthcare needs through the provision of medical care equipment and helping to strengthen the public health & medical system.

The situation in schools in Uganda, a year after full reopening from the COVID-19 lockdowns

This brief explores the implications of the persistent school fees increment on student enrolment in Uganda. According to the Survey, seven (7) in every ten (10) surveyed schools further increased their fee charges in the first term of 2023, in addition to the increment made in September 2022 (third term of the previous academic year). Schools reported an increase in the enrollment of boys and a decrease in the enrollment of female students in the first term of 2023.


Implications of early marriages on development outcomes in Uganda

This Brief analyses the implications of early marriages on development outcomes such as population, fertility and education completion of women in Uganda. Findings from this Study indicate that early marriages drive Uganda’s population and total fertility rate (TFR) estimates upward, with an Early Marriage scenario increasing TFR to about 5.1 live births per woman. This eventually leads to an addition of 1.5 million people by 2030, and further to 15 million by 2060.
