WASH Finance in Africa

The brief examines the current status of the WASH (Water and Sanitation) initiative in Africa, status of countries prioritizing this in their plans and discussing what relevant stakeholders can do going forward to close the financing gaps. It was prepared by the African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation (WASH) in Africa.  Investment in WASH is beneficial in achieving SDGs beyond water and sanitation to different sectors such as Health and Education.



Uganda’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution.

Climate change is one of the biggest global focus areas at the moment and Uganda has jumped onto the wagon too to mitigate the effects. In fulfilment of the Paris Agreement (signed in October 2015), Uganda has launched its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) with our priority response being adaptation and increasing resilience in communities and ecosystems. The new adaptation component covers 13 sectors. The key adaptation sectors include agriculture, water, forestry and ecosystem. Other significant sectors are transport, energy, mining, cities and built environment.


Uwezo National Learning Assessment Report, 2021

This Report provides an assessment on learning outcomes across the country, as measured by basic literacy and numeracy proficiencies. The Report indicates that the percentage of children (between P.3 to P.7) who could not read anything from a P.2-level English story almost doubled from 6.2% in 2018 to 11.6% in 2021. Particularly, over 25% of P.3 children could not read anything from a P.2-level English story while 25.8% could read only letters and not words. Similarly, over 10.8% of children in P.3 could not solve P.2-level numeracy tasks.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) signs an MoU with Uganda Gold refiners, Exporters, and Dealers Association

In January 2023, URA signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uganda Gold refiners, Exporters, and Dealers Association.[1] The MoU is aimed at  streamlining the regulation of gold trade in the country and enhancing coordination in information sharing to increase tax compliance. This MoU is one of the channels Government seeks to increase the Revenue to GDP ratio from 15.6 % to 18 % by 2025.


Government of Uganda signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Monenco Iran Consulting Engineers

Through the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology and National Guidance, GoU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monenco Iran Consulting Engineers for provision of technical support in telecommunications and data governance in Uganda. This MoU is intended to foster e-governance across the public sector and enhance the automation of institutional management functions.


Government of Uganda Unveils Polycarbonate Electronic Passports.

In March 2023, government of Uganda through the Directorate of Citizen and Immigration Control (DCIC) unveiled polycarbonate electronic passports as a replacement of previous paper-based e-passportswith a focus of increasing travel efficiency and security. The polycarbonate electronic passports will be of higher quality and durability, as well as better data protection and lower risk of damage.
