Uganda National Bureau of Standards Signs MOU with USAID to Boost MSME Certification

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector plays a crucial role in the economic growth of Uganda with its GDP contribution standing at over 70 percent and its employment and job creation rising to 90 percent. However, due to a number of challenges like; lack of information, standardisation and product certification, legal and institutional challenges, they continue to experience high mortality rate.


UTB Seals Deal with UEGCL to Package and Market Karuma and Isimba Hydro Power Stations as Tourism Products

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Electricity Generating Company Limited (UEGCL) signed a MOU to package and market the 600MW Karuma and the 183MW Isimba hydropower dams as superstructures/infrastructure tourism products. Isimba was commissioned in March 2019 while Karuma is expected to be commissioned in June 2022.


Uganda Registration Services Bureau and Stanbic Bank Incubator to Support 500 SMES Annually

URSB and Stanbic Bank signed an agreement that will see 500 Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises (MSMEs) trained and supported to become better businesses. The training will take place annually for the next five years. It will mainly focus on training SMEs about URSB services and enterprise development under Stanbic Business Incubator Limited’s (SBIL) Enterprise Development Program. These services include; business registration, insolvency, SIMPO, intellectual property, provide experts and expertise in capacity building and training programs, identify and facilitate businesses.
