The State of the World’s Children Report 2023

This Report examines ways in which primary health care can be strengthened to support immunization services in a better way across the world. The Report explores interventions that need to be adopted to ensure that every child, everywhere is protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. The Report focuses on the role of poverty, marginalization and gender in determining whether or not children are vaccinated.


Retirement Benefits Sector Report 2022

This Report comprises of information on the performance of the Pension Sector for FY 2021/22. According to the Report, Pension Sector assets grew by 11.8% from Ushs 17.8 trillion in FY 2020/21 to Ushs 19.9 trillion in 2021/22, accounting for 12.2% of GDP and over 60% of Gross Domestic savings. Member contributions increased by 5.88% from Ushs 1.7 trillion in 2020/21 to Ushs 1.8 trillion in 2021/22. In addition, the number of members subscribing to at least one pension scheme increased by 2.24% from 2,949,715 members in 2020/21 to 3,015,807 members in 2021/22.


Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) launched

Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development launched the integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) and publicized the public investment financing Strategy (PIFS). The INFF is aimed at helping countries to overcome existing obstacles to finance their development needs-sustainable financing for national development plans at country level.


Government of Uganda establishes a Climate Finance Unit (CFU)

Government of Uganda set up the Climate Finance Unit (CFU) under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), with funding from the United Kingdom-Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The CFU seeks to enhance the mobilization of climate financing in line with MoFPED’s mandate of mobilizing resources to finance Government Development priorities.


United States Launches New Project to Help Reduce Corruption in Uganda

The East African Community (EAC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on 17th April 2023 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania between the EAC Secretary General and the UNHCR Regional Director for the East, Horn, and Great Lakes Regions, and targeted renewing and strengthening cooperation in addressing issues on refugee and asylum seekers in need of international protection, across the region.

There will be prioritization in addressing the mixed movements of refugees and migrants in the region, binding international and national refugee law, and protecting persons with special needs as a result of this collaboration.



H.E the President of Uganda assents to the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters (Implementation) Act, 2023

On June 23rd,2023, the H.E the President of Uganda assented to the bill of the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters (Implementation) Act, 2023. The Act came into force on 1st July 2023 and it is to give the force of law in Uganda to the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters; the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information; the Standard for Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information in tax matters; and for related matters.


The Parliament of Uganda passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023

Parliament passed the bill to prohibit the promotion or recognition of sexual relations between persons of the same sex. The bill was passed by parliament on Tuesday, 21st March 2023 and if assented to by the President, also proposes a death penalty for anyone engaging in aggravated homosexuality.  The president assented to the Anti-Homosexuality Act, of 2023 and he signed the bill into law on 26th May 2023.
